Geoffroy's introduction

Biological engineer by training, I have 10 years of experience in Waste Management and plastic recycling. Since 2022, I have been focusing on recycling plastic across Southeast Asia, finding technical and business solutions to tackle plastic waste.  I’m passionate about solving the puzzle of combining technical feasibility with responsible profitability.

Expertise in the following
What brought you to sustainability?

I have spent my whole career in environmental and waste management. I started my career in Haiti, where I worked for the local public water company after the 2010 earthquake. After this life-changing experience, I have developed my expertise in Industrial wastewater and waste management.  I would say that sustainability has been my job and passion since the beginning.

Which sustainable actions are you in charge of or have you implemented in your organisation?

My organisation's business is sustainability, circularity and recycling. My job consists of setting up new recycling capabilities in Southeast Asia.

Which challenges did you meet and how did you overcome them?

The cultural differences are one of the key challenges I met. Working in APAC brings a large cultural gap and increases the likelihood of misunderstandings. Reading the book on the culture map by Erin Meyer helps a lot to break the invisible boundaries of cultural differences.

Financing is also one of the key challenges. There is often a discrepancy between people's desire to be more sustainable and the market reality. At the end of the day, every sustainability strategy should be profitable to be long-term. But how we measure this profitability is challenging depends on your own KPI.

What are you most proud of?

Being able to jump on any occasion to convince people to be more sustainable. When working in developing countries, understanding them is the key to implement good business practices there. I act where it matters.
